A Brief History
Malaysia Hall Perth or Dewan Malaysia Perth (DMP) is a Malaysian students’ accommodation hall which is located at 268, Newcastle St, Perth WA 6000 which is owned by the Malaysian government. The building is located at the Northbridge, very close to City of Perth.
The building which is in the corner of Newcastle Street and Lake Street was once a famous backpacker accommodation in Perth. The building was built in 1896 and is considered as a heritage building. The hall comprises of 36 rooms which can accommodate 45 number of residents and guests at one time for now. The offered facilities are library, prayer room (surau), multipurpose hall and recreational room. This building was chosen due to its strategic location to accommodate Malaysia students who study in the Perth area. It also has an easy access to public transportation that would take you around in CBD and many other parts of Perth.
The opening ceremony of Malaysia Hall Perth was held on 13 November 2014 by name of YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Hj Muhyiddin Hj Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister.
To this day, the Hall is open to Malaysians who are studying in Australia and Malaysians alike who are travelling to Perth. Strict regulations are also being implemented at DMP. Charges are based on the provided categories (students/non-students/long term stay/short term stay).
